Pragmatic Change-Making

A so-so algorithm for making change happen:

  1. Figure out what you’re good at right now.
  2. Spend 80% of your energy on what you’re good at.
  3. Meanwhile, spend the remaining 20% on reshaping what you’re good at into something better, different, or adjacent-and-better.

A better algorithm for making change happen:

  1. Start by asking, “What should you do?” without paying too much attention to the here-and-now.
  2. Figure out what you’re good at right now.
  3. Spend 80% of your energy on what you’re good at.
  4. Meanwhile, spend the remaining 20% on reshaping what you’re good at into something better, different, or adjacent-and-better.
